How To Interpret Scripture

A believer defended me to his church ... he said to them,

"God tells him what the Bible means ... he doesn't have to study".

The Lord says to your church,

"How can you know what I'm saying without Me? You search the scriptures to interpret. How can you (know what I'm saying) without Me? People laugh at how you (He's referring to me) interpret scripture".

The Lord says to them,

"That's your interpretation. That's not God's way".

The Lord says to you, that you don't know how to interpret scripture because you don't hear Him talking. The Lord says,

"Let that sink in. Let it scrape against everything that you've been taught" ...

John 14:26 Living Bible (Paraphrased}

26 {And Jesus said} But when the Father sends the Comforter instead of meand by the Comforter I mean the Holy Spirithe will teach you much, as well as remind you of everything I myself have told you.

2 Timothy 2:15 Living Bible {Paraphrased}

15 Work hard so God can say to you, “Well done.” Be a good workman {of Bible interpretation}, one who does not need to be ashamed when God examines your work. Know what his Word says and means {through study with the Holy Spirit}.

The Voice of God

Ottro,

“Understanding the Voice of God”

For your understanding: Jesus is the Word of God (John 1:1–3). His name is also called “the Word of God” (Revelation 19:13). Therefore, whatever Jesus has spoken is found in Scripture. In the Old Testament, Jesus spoke Psalm 50 before He became a man (John 1:14); see Psalm 50:22–23. As you know, the New Testament contains the words of Jesus—the Word of God.

Accordingly, when Jesus says in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit will remind us of whatever He has said, this means the Holy Spirit will bring to remembrance what Scripture says, because Jesus is the Word of God. Therefore, as you study the Scriptures, they speak to you as Jesus would (see Proverbs 6:22–24; 2 Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 8:20–21), because the Word is living and active (Hebrews 4:12) and Scripture interprets Scripture (2 Peter 1:20–21).

In other words, the Bible interprets itself. This is the point Jesus and the apostle Paul are addressing in John 14:26 and 2 Timothy 2:15: the Holy Spirit will remind you of passages throughout the Bible so that, as you study, you rightly divide the Word—comparing book with book and gathering Scriptures that speak to the same subject—because it is living and it speaks.

World without end. Amen.
