Lately Iโ€™ve seen people putting down TV evangelists, and I want to speak carefully about that. I know the Lord, and I understand much of what theyโ€™re saying. Many of these ministers are anointed, and they carry the Holy Spirit. I say this because a lot of the people criticizing them sound like the false prophets.

Yes, some of the TV evangelists ask for money. I donโ€™t do that personally, but Scripture does say ministers have a right to be supported: โ€œYou shall not muzzle an ox while it is treading out the grainโ€ย (1 Corinthians 9:9), and โ€œthe Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospelโ€ย (1 Corinthians 9:14). Large ministries come with large expenses, and most people donโ€™t know what itโ€™s like to carry huge ministry bills. I have big bills too, so I understand how financial shortage can threaten the work. If a ministry crashes because of lack, thatโ€™s a defeatโ€”so that may be one reason some of them make financial appeals.

When I witness, I donโ€™t ask people for money. God supplies what I need to do what Heโ€™s called me to doโ€”because โ€œmy God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesusโ€ย (Philippians 4:19). Still, we should be very careful about calling these ministers โ€œevil,โ€ because Jesus warned about attributing the work of the Holy Spirit to an evil spirit: โ€œwhoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnationโ€ย (Mark 3:29). That has eternal consequences.

What I see happening to some of these anointed evangelists is similar to what people did to Jesusโ€”saying He was crazy or demon-possessed because of what He said and did. Scripture records it plainly: โ€œHe has Beelzebubโ€ย and โ€œBy the ruler of the demons He casts out demonsโ€ย (Mark 3:22). There may be hurt, history, or bad blood in church circles, but Scripture shows us a better postureโ€”like David with Saul. Even when Saul sinned against him, David refused to touch the Lordโ€™s anointed: โ€œThe LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the LORDโ€™s anointedโ€ย (1 Samuel 24:6).

So, the conclusion is simple: be cautious. Yes, there are false prophets in the worldโ€”โ€œBeware of false prophetsโ€ย (Matthew 7:15)โ€”but donโ€™t rush to condemn people who may truly be anointed by the Holy Spirit. And remember, discernment is spiritual: โ€œthe natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of Godโ€ฆ because they are spiritually discernedโ€ย (1 Corinthians 2:14).
