Matthew 24:29-31
Authorized (King James) Version
29Â Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened,
and the moon shall not give her light,
and the stars shall fall from heaven,
and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:Â
30Â and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven:
and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn,
and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.Â
31Â And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet,
and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds,
from one end of heaven to the other.
In context, this passage is saying that the rapture happens on the day that Jesus returns because Jesus is talking about His return in v. 30, and then He does the rapture in v. 31, after He begins His return in v. 30. The context is Jesus' return.
The rapture happens in the sky according to 1 Thes. 4:17, but the rapture doesn't happen before Jesus' return, a pre-Tribulation rapture, because the context of this passage is Jesus' return. In context with His return, the rapture happens. This is what Mt. 24:30, 31 are saying.
About the Tribulation, in v. 29 Jesus says that the return and the rapture happen after the great Tribulation. The Tribulation of verse 29 in context from verse 21 is identified in verse 21 as the Great Tribulation. Verse 21 says "great tribulation". Verse 29 says "tribulation". However, we see in this chapter in context from verses 15-31 that Jesus returns while the Tribulation is in progress.
What Jesus means by "after" in verse 29 is after the Tribulation of verses 15-22 begin. It shows that the Tribulation has not ended when Jesus returns in verse 30, because in context from verse 15, Jesus returns mid-Tribulation and while the devil is in control, according to this passage.
Today, we are in verses 4-8, The "birth pangs" of Christ's return. After the birth pangs comes the great rebellion in verses 9-14. The falling away from Christianity to the Muslim religion, revealed in 2 Thes. 2:3.
After the great rebellion of verses 9-14, comes the revelation of the antichrist in verses 15-22, revealed in 2 Thes. 2:3 as "the man of sin" and "the son of perdition". The devil in human form. Mind you now that it is the Muslims that Jesus is talking about in Mt. 24:9-12 with arrests, affliction, murder, hatred, offense, betrayal, deception, iniquity and trauma done to Christians.
Mt. 24:23-28 imply that this devil in human form is still in control when Christ returns, as 2 Thes. 2:8 says, that Jesus will destroy him, the Mahdi, with the brightness of His return. 2 Thes. 2:9 reveals who this "man of sin" and "son of perdition" is with Revelation 13:11-18 as "the lamb with horns", the "second beast"; the second son of Satan. The "false prophet".
Do you understand yet that the false prophet, the false Messiah, is Muhammad of Islam? The lamb with horns and false prophet in Rev. 13:11-18 are the Muhammad system; the false Islam religion of Muhammad. The name of the False Prophet is Muhammad. Look at what this says about Muhammad:
"In Islam, the final prophet sent by God (Allah) is Muhammad. Muslims believe he is the "Seal of the Prophets," meaning there will be no prophet after him. While other prophets are revered in Islam, such as Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, Muhammad is considered the last and final messenger sent by God to guide humanity".
(See section at the end for a special section on the Mahdi of Islam)
The identity of the "man of sin" and "son of perdition" is revealed by two correlating passages in two different books; 2 Thes. 2:9 and Rev. 13:13-15, as 2 Thes. 2:9, "satanic power, signs and lying wonders", and Rev. 13:13-15, "great miracles", "wonders" and "power".
Rev. 13:14 means 2 Thes. 2:9. The false prophet in Rev. 13:14 had the power to do these miracles in the sight of the first Beast. 2 Thes. 2:9 says it this way, that, the false prophet's coming is after the working of Satan with these false powers.
This means that when Rev. 13:14 says that the false prophet had power to do these lying wonders in the sight of the first Beast, that it means what 2 Thes. 2:9 says, that the false prophet's power was done after Satan; meaning in his sight.
Mt. 24:32-51. The context of this passage is Jesus' return, and the rapture is in it in verses 40 and 41. This reveals that the rapture occurs after Jesus begins His descent while in the air because the people in verses 40 and 41 are taken from the earth. They disappear in the twinkling of an eye. First Jesus descends from heaven then does the rapture while yet in the air (1 Thes. 4:16, 17).
This passage, 1 Thes. 4:16, 17, by the way, is more confirmation from the Bible that Jesus does the rapture in the air after He begins His return and completes it with them. It says, "the Lord Jesus Himself shall descend from heaven ... and the dead in Christ shall rise first ... and we who are alive and remain shall be raptured together with them to meet the Lord Jesus in the air" ...
It's evident from Rev. 19 that Jesus wipes out the evil people on earth when He returns. If Jesus returned in verses 40 and 41, why do they disappear? Does Jesus and the church disappear when they reach the earth? Because Jesus has not returned in verses 40 and 41 yet. He returns with those He raptured in verse 46.
As those who were taken in verses 40 and 41 and disappeared, so the rapture happens instantly on the day that Jesus returns. The dead and living in Christ all disappear from the earth in the twinkling of an eye after Jesus begins His return, but before He completes it with them. Not before the Tribulation begins. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 says this too,
Authorized (King James) Version
{Paraphrased}
14Â For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
even so them also which {are dead} in Jesus will God bring with him.
Jesus tells us to "watch for Him" in verses 40 thru 47 because Jesus' return and the rapture are going to happen suddenly and quickly, mid-tribulation, on the same day, and Jesus ends the tribulation with His return. According to 1 Thes. 2:1-9 Jesus returns while the devil is in mid-Tribulation and destroys him while he is ruling the earth.
This is mid-Tribulation rapture. Jesus raptures us before He completes His return, while in descent, and then completes His return with us, the raptured and resurrected church, and destroys this world with us immediately after He does the rapture. The rapture is part of Jesus' return.
Furthermore, Rev. 19 and 2 Pt. 3 make it clear that Jesus destroys this world on the day that He returns. Thus, it is unscriptural to say that there is a seven-year period in between the rapture and Jesus' return, because Jesus destroys this world on the day that He returns, and the rapture happens after He begins His descent back to earth.
Jesus doesn't come from heaven to do the rapture in the sky, then stay in the sky and go back to heaven with the church to celebrate the marriage supper and then return from the sky later, because the context of this passage is Jesus' return, and Mt. 24:31 says that the rapture happens after He descends.
Jesus doesn't do the rapture pre-Tribulation because 1 Cor. 15:52 says that the rapture happens in the twinkling of an eye after Jesus begins His return. This means that there is no seven-year period between the rapture and the return.
Jesus begins His descent to return to earth, does the rapture & the first resurrection in the twinkling of an eye while yet in the sky, then completes His return with the raptured & resurrected church and the angels to destroy this world, and then goes into the millennial reign with us.
Mt. 24:30, 31 is not Jesus returning to get the Bride in the rapture & the first resurrection then staying in the sky to do the marriage supper, because the context of this passage is the return of Jesus, not the taking of the Bride. It means that the taking of the Bride is in context with Jesus' return.
This passage is about Jesus returning with His church. Not going back to heaven, or staying in the sky for seven years after the rapture, because Jesus returns in Mt. 24:30 before the rapture & first resurrection happen in Mt. 24:31.
In Mt. 24:5-27 Jesus repeats something that needs to be said now, about false prophets. He says in verses 5, 11 and 24 that there will be many false prophets before and after the Mahdi rises in verse 15. This is why the false prophet Mahdi comes after the false prophet Muhammad to revive Muhammad's false Muslim religion.
People say that the rapture could happen at any moment. That the rapture is imminent. But the Bible says that it happens at "the last trump" (1 Cor. 15:52) and at "midnight" (Mt. 25:6). "During" the tribulation (Mt. 24:15-42). That is not imminent, but an appointed time (Gal. 4:2). People think that the rapture is imminent because they don't know what Jesus means by "no one knows the day or the hour".
See the messages below in the links about the rapture occurring at the last trump, what the last trump is, when the last trump is blown. That it occurs at midnight, what the midnight hour is, and what Jesus means by "no one knows the day or the hour", as well as many other truths.
